چکیده

We consider stable marriage problems equipped with covering constraints: here the input distinguishes a subset of women as well as a subset of men, and we seek a matching with fewest number of blocking pairs that matches all of the distinguished people. This concept strictly generalizes the notion of arranged marriages introduced by Knuth in 1976, in which the partner of each distinguished person is fixed a priori. Our main result is a complete computational complexity trichotomy of the stable marriage problem with covering constraints, into polynomial-time solvable cases, fixed-parameter tractable cases, and cases that are W[1]-hard, for every choice among a set of natural parameters, namely the maximum length of preference lists for men and women, the number of distinguished men and women, and the number of blocking pairs allowed. Thereby, we fully answer an open problem of Hamada et al. (ESA 2011).

Maximal covering location-allocation problem with M/M/k queuing system and side constraints

We consider the maximal covering location-allocation problem with multiple servers. The objective is to maximize the population covered, subject to constraints on the number of service centers, total number of servers in all centers, and the average waiting time at each center. Each center operates as an M/M/k queuing system with variable number of servers. The total costs of establishing cen...

Hub Covering Location Problem Considering Queuing and Capacity Constraints

In this paper, a hub covering location problem is considered. Hubs, which are the most congested part of a network, are modeled as M/M/C queuing system and located in placeswhere the entrance flows are more than a predetermined value.A fuzzy constraint is considered in order to limit the transportation time between all origin-destination pairs in the network. On modeling, a nonlinear mathematica...

Stable matching problems with soft constraints

We consider stable matching problems where the agents express their preferences compactly via soft constraints. We study the impact of this choice on the computational complexity of finding stable matching, with particular attention to fuzzy constraints.

An n-ary Constraint for the Stable Marriage Problem

We present an n-ary constraint for the stable marriage problem. This constraint acts between two sets of integer variables where the domains of those variables represent preferences. Our constraint enforces stability and disallows bigamy. For a stable marriage instance with n men and n women we require only one of these constraints, and the complexity of enforcing arc-consistency is O(n) which ...

A Trichotomy in the Complexity of Propositional Circumscription

Circumscription is one of the most important and well studied formalisms in the realm of nonmonotonic reasoning. The inference problem for propositional circumscription has been extensively studied from the viewpoint of computational complexity. We prove that there exists a trichotomy for the complexity of the inference problem in propositional variable circumscription. More specifically we pro...
